No matter what you want to create, the only way to succeed is to set and plan your goals. The first thing you need to do is to be crystal clear about what your goals are. If you are a little vague about what you want, your brain won’t be able to identify what to do. Then you can establish a clear path by planning your actions. Whether you want to lose weight or start a business, you need to clarify what your goal is, set an action plan and act towards achieving that goal. This article provides tools to help you set your goals properly and achieve them easily.
In this article you will learn:
- A powerful action plan to turn goals into reality.
- Ingenious tips to be more productive.
- Success guaranteed method to get anything you want.
Identify your big goal
The very first step to achieving anything is to understand what you want. Don’t limit yourself. If you set big goals, you will get big results. Sometimes, big goals seem overwhelming and we, consciously or unconsciously, restrain ourselves from setting them. We fear failure, judgment, and disappointment. Don’t be afraid. Pay attention to what your inner self is telling you. You don’t need anyone to tell you who to be or what to think. Deep inside, you know exactly who you are and what you want to do with your life. From there, use the principles listed below to turn your goal into reality.
Understand why your goal is important to you
Knowing why your goal is meaningful to you is crucial. You need to have a goal that feeds your soul. A goal that is meaningful and important to you. Understanding why your goal is important will also create an emotional connection with it. Being emotionally connected to something helps to stay focused. Knowing what you want and why you want it will clarify your vision, set a purpose and make your goal more easily attainable. Ask yourself: Why do I want to achieve this particular goal? Is it meaningful to me? How? Do I care about others’ judgment? Would I still do it if nobody could know about it?
Clarify your goal
You need to have a clear and detailed vision of what you want. Instead of saying “I want to lose weight”, set a particular amount of weight that you want to lose. Vague goals create vague results. To clarify your goal, make it measurable and time-centered. You need to answer the questions “how much” and “by when”. How much weight do you want to lose and by when? How much money do you want to earn and by when? Use measurable quantities and set a specific time and date. Set a clear vision of your goal by being as specific as you can. If you want a new house, what kind of house do you want? How many rooms? What kind of flooring? What type of furniture? Is there a garden? A pool? How much money does the house cost? And by when will you have it?
Visualize what you want
When you visualize your goal every single day, it creates a conflict in your subconscious mind between what you see and what you have. If you regularly visualize your goal, your subconscious mind will try to resolve the conflict by bringing solutions and ideas to match the reality to your vision. When your vision is too vague, your mind gets confused and can’t come up with proper ideas. If you want a new car, visualize yourself driving it and include as many details as you can. What are the model and color of the car? How does the interior look like? What would you hear, touch and see? And most importantly, how would it feel to drive this car? Make a clear picture of your goal and make sure to visualize it every day.
Break down your big goal into smaller ones
A big goal is nothing more than a series of small, achievable goals. The secret is to take care of small goals one day at a time. There are a few things you can do to know exactly what your small goals should be. Number one, you can reach someone who achieved something similar. Don’t be afraid to contact people. Keep asking until someone agrees to talk to you. The other option is to educate yourself. Sometimes you will have to pay for books, training or coaching to access a particular knowledge. Remember that investing in yourself is the best investment you can possibly do. Educate yourself to the point where you are able to create an action plan to get from where you are to where you want to be.
Organize and plan
Once you have a specific, measurable, time-oriented goal divided into smaller ones, it is time to make a timeline. At this point, you should have a clear vision of what you need to do. The next step is to make monthly, weekly and daily deadlines to stay on track. Your brain loves what is specific and organized. Be aware that things might change along the way. You never know what the future holds and should expect great opportunities to knock at your door. Set long-term goals but stay open to change. One thing that I find particularly helpful is to plan my daily tasks the night before. By doing so, your brain has the entire night to process the information and work on your goals. It will be easier to get things done the next day, as your brain will already have come up with solutions to overcome any obstacle you might encounter.
SMART stands for Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Time-oriented goals. The smarter your goal is, the better. First, make sure that your goal is specific. What do you want to achieve? What is the desired outcome? Where, when, how and with whom do you want to do it? Then, make your goal measurable by making it evidence-based. How will you know that your goal has been achieved? Also, make sure that your goal is attainable. At this point in your life, are you able to achieve this goal? If not, what knowledge or resources do you need to reach your goal? How much will it cost and how long will it take to do it? To make your goal relevant, ask yourself why you want it. Is it meaningful to you? Is it a priority? What is your ambition and will your goal help realize it? Finally, make your goal time-oriented by setting specific deadlines. To stay on track, install daily, weekly, monthly and yearly deadlines for yourself and those who work with you.
Learn to appreciate feedback
Most of us fear negative feedback as we perceive it as a sign of failure. As humans, we prefer positive feedback as it feeds our egos. But negative feedback is a wonderful tool to improve ourselves. Successful people identify their mistakes, correct them and move on. Asking for feedback is the best way to improve ourselves and reach success quickly. If you have a business, make it a habit to regularly ask your customers and employees for feedbacks. When you hear a negative feedback, always make sure that it is constructive. If not, simply let it go.
Keep track of your achievements
The most important part of success is a positive mindset. In order to keep moving forward and reach your goal, you need to stay positive. An easy way to do that is to keep track your achievements. Create a list of all the things you achieved and look at it every day. We often seek others’ approval and recognition to feel more fulfillment in our lives when, in reality, it is ourselves that we need to impress. Be proud of yourself and your achievements. Give yourself a personal high-five once in a while!
In order to go from where you are to where you want to be you will need to educate yourself and get new skills. It is impossible to get all the knowledge in the world. Find people who know more than you do, start working with them or simply ask for advice. Successful people surround themselves with skilled people who can help them reach their goals. Don’t make the mistake to try to do everything by yourself. Ask for advice and delegate tasks.
See failure as an importunity
Failure is part of the process. It is simply an opportunity to do things differently. Instead of seeing failure as an obstacle, see it as a way to improve yourself and do better. If your goal is meaningful to you, don’t give up. Remind yourself that it is a matter of time before it happens. Failure is there to help you grow. If you can visualize it, you can do it. Just keep on working, fix what needs to be fixed, and stay positive no matter what.
